Archives and family history
Archives and family history has books on all aspects of Bury's history. The majority of these books are for reference only but we do have a small selection that can be borrowed if you have a Bury library card. We also have a range of historical publications for sale. Additional material is available on microfilm or microfiche format. Microfilm/fiche viewers are available but must be booked in advance. You can also use our computers to search Ancestry for free. All research facilities are open during normal opening hours.
The search room is available to consult original archives, maps, local publications, church record transcripts etc. We do not require advanced notice but if you are able to contact us before you visit with a list of items needed and reference numbers, which can be obtained from the online catalogues, we can have everything ready for when you arrive.
Items are collected at the end of each session and there is a limit of the number of items you can view. Lockers are available to store personal effects and only pencils can be used in the search room.
Please contact us if you wish to arrange a visit.
