Reducing Parental Conflict courses (for professionals)

Bury Safeguarding Children’s Board is running a series of 2-day Reducing Parental Conflict courses in September and October. Conflict between parents, whether together or separated, can have a significant negative impact on children’s mental health and long-term life chances.

When it is frequent, intense and poorly resolved it can harm children’s outcomes. The DWP is leading a national Reducing Parental Conflict (RPC) Programme to embed evidence-based support to tackle parental conflict in local areas.

Courses are running across 2019 and 24th April 2020.

Upcoming Workshops for professionals:

25 and 26 September – 2 day workshop (commencing 8.45 each day) targeted at those with responsibility for front-line practitioners in a range of organisations across the local authority and associated organisations. This workshop will provide an awareness of parental conflict, explore knowledge, skills and behaviours to support staff to identify, intervene and where appropriate escalate to relevant services.

7 and 8 October, 17 and 18 October and 22 and 23 October – 2 day workshops targeted at front line practitioners, service designers or commissioners working in a variety of roles across the LA and associated organisations.  The workshop will help explore the evidence base for parental conflict and its impact on child development and outcomes.

It will help explore the signs of parental conflict and how to recognise at the early stages in order to offer support to parents, enable practitioners to practice the skills of handling conversations with parents in conflict, using tools and techniques that enable parents to resolve destructive conflict with positive outcomes and for the whole family.
